At the exit ramp at I-90/39 & Business 20 (State St exit), turn right...1 block down the road at the first stop light, you'll see the Holiday Inn on the right side of the road, turn right there.
(the Hoffman House is at the back of the Holiday Inn)
EXTREMELY easy to find!
Here's a Mapquest Link to the location

(Keep in mind, there are some areas of road construction on I90 coming from the north just before the business 20 State St exit, with reduced speeds posted at 45mph, and possibly other areas, so allow extra time. Check here to see if your route is under any construction)

there are several right nearby, many within 1 mile of the Hoffman House.

We're also pleased to have internet access for our event, so that we can keep everyone updated with the results as we go!

Registration for the Tournament will open at 9am,
I'll have the opening announcements at 9:50,
and we will start right at 10am

We're expecting a large number of players, anywhere from 150 - 200, so
Preregister to save time getting through registration.
Email me with your Name, Birthday, POP ID, City and State.
(If you don't have a POP ID #, let me know and I can assign one to you and you can pick up your POP ID card when you get there)
Contact me to Preregister for this Event!

Decklists will be required... we will have Decklists there for you to fill out, or here is a link if you'd like to print one out and fill yours out ahead of time. (click here for the decklist to print out) We will also have people at the event who can help you if you need help in filling them out. We also ask that you write your City and State on your form, as we plan to have a large area map showing where people have come from to be a part of this event. It will be great fun to see how far some have come from to participate! (And also I'll be giving out some random booster packs to some of those who do put their City and State on their Decklists)

Decklists MUST be turned in AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
after you arrive to get you entered into the tournament.
We'll have a long day ahead and we just can't delay the start of the tournament for those arriving late. It's not fair to those who arrive prepared and on time.

Remember, the following sets are legal for play in this Modified tournament.
Also, the recently released POP 9 series and the blister pack Promo DP35 Porygon 2 and DP36 Gliscor will NOT be legal for State Championships.

The tournament is run using the Modified Format and Swiss pairings. See the Tournament Rules for additional information about the Modified and Swiss formats. The number of Swiss rounds run will depend on total attendance of the event.

After Swiss rounds are complete, there will be a cut to single-elimination finals. The number of players to qualify for the finals will depend on the total attendance in each age division, with a maximum of 16 players playing off in any one division. Due to the number of players we will likely have, (anywhere from 150-200) we anticipate having 6 rounds for the Juniors and Seniors with Top 8 Finals, and 7 rounds for the Masters with Top 16. I have a tentative timetable below.

S/P/T Championship events have a K-Value of 32, same as Regionals and Nationsl. For more information on K-Value, Ratings, and Rankings, click here.

Prizes are awarded to the top 8 players in each age division.
But we will also have many random door prizes to give away through the day!

The divisions are:

Junior Division: Born in 1998 or later
Senior Division: Born in 1994, 1995, 1996, or 1997
Masters Division: Born in 1993 or earlier

Participants will receive a Pokémon TCG S/P/T Championships promo card and a commemorative S/P/T Championships pin, while supplies last, all just for playing!

The top 8 finishers in each of the three age divisions will receive the following prizes:

1st Place

  • A Pokémon TCG S/P/T 1st Place trophy
  • A $300 travel allowance to participate in the Pokémon TCG National Championships (U.S. & Canada). This allowance will be given on-site at the National Championships*
  • 36 booster packs of Pokémon TCG: Platinum
  • Other cool Pokémon merchandise

2nd Place

  • A Pokémon TCG S/P/T 2nd Place trophy
  • 16 booster packs of Pokémon TCG: Platinum

3rd & 4th Place

  • A Pokémon TCG S/P/T 3rd/4th Place trophy
  • 8 booster packs of Pokémon TCG: Platinum

5th through 8th Place

  • 4 booster packs of Pokémon TCG: Platinum

* Players can win multiple travel stipends. Travel stipends must be collected by the winner of record

Here's the tentative timetable for the tournament:

Also of interest -

Pokemon Products - Jimmy Ballard's store, Collect a Card N Comics, be on site with lots of items for sale to help you with your State Championships experience. They'll have booster packs, Preconstructed Theme Decks, sleeves, dice, individual cards for sale...Plus he's even got the brand new Sky High Collector Tins! They'll also have snack items like chips and candy bars for sale in our room as well. So bring along some spending money to pick up those items you want!

Food - We may not bring in outside food for meals, but if you'll be spending the day with us, bring along a few dollars and there will be plenty of things to eat. I have arranged to have a waitress station at the far corner of the room (close to the back kitchen exit for them) where players can place their orders with the waitress, they'll be given a number, and the waitress will call their numbers when their food is ready.  I have spare tables where people can eat.  We will have the following items on the menu:
French Fries $2
Cheese Sticks $3
Hot Dogs $3
Grilled Cheese $3.50
Cheeseburgers $4
Ham Sandwiches $4
Turkey Sandwiches $4
There will also be cans of soda for $1 and a water station.
(For those of you who have more discriminating tastes, the Hoffman House restaurant has a complete menu, including some of the best Prime Rib in the area, although it is rather pricey.)As I said, we're not allowed to bring in outside food, but there are also a number of fast food and other restaurants all around the street within a mile if you'd like to go get something else during the lunch or dinner breaks. Some are Steak n Shake, Burger King, Country Kitchen, Atlanta Bread Co, McDonalds, Subway, Ruby Tuesday, Little Sicily's Pizza, Panda Express, Panera Bread, Thunder Bay Grille...and more.
(click here for a map of area restaurants)

Art Corner -  Once again, we'll have an Art Corner set up where players can color from any number of Pokemon 'Color ME' pages, but this year I'll also have a lot of the cardboard deck/card storage boxes that kids can decorate... I've got stickers and various things that kids can use to "decorate their deckboxes", with glue, tape, markers, whatever they like.  I'll have Event helpers there to oversee things. You can also Make your own Trainer Card, and Make your own Pokemon card too.

Contests - I'll have several contests going on during the event, with some fun items to win...

Art Contest - Create your own Pokemon related masterpiece there at the event in our Art Corner or bring your own submission with you to enter. Let's see just how creative you all can be!

Dice Dilemna! - Be the closest one to guess the number of dice in the jar and win 4 Booster Packs!

Counter Counting! - If you guess the closest number of damage counters in the jar, you'll win 4 Booster Packs!

Chansey's Chance Raffle - Get a raffle ticket for each Chansey card you donate from any set to Devin's Chansey Collection, more for rares and EXs! We'll draw for 6 Booster packs to 2 separate winners.

Pikas for Packs Raffle - Get a raffle ticket for each Pikachu card you turn in, from any set, for Troy's daughter Danielle's Pikachu Collection. 2 separate winners will get 6 booster packs each.

Booster Box Raffle - Only $1 will get you a raffle ticket for the chance to win an entire Booster Box of the newest set, Platinum! So bring along a few spare bucks and you might just go home with a whole box!

You're from WHERE?!? - We'll have some random giveaways based on where you've come from, so be sure you put your city and state on your Decklists so we can get you added to our big area Player Map!

It's a Flip-A-Thon! At various times we'll have a set of 4 people, each given a coin to keep flipping until they get tails. The last person remaining will win a booster pack! Later, the winners of each 'round' will be able to battle each other to see who gets the title of Best Flippin' Flipper at States!

Pokemon Hats! - I have personally sewn these cute fleece Pokemon Hats and will have drawings for each of them separately. I may have more of them finished by the date of States too, and I'll likely have a few of each design.
Enter for the chance to win any of them and wear them proudly!
Right now, there's a Larvitar, Pikachu, and a Drifloom (I've got them propped up on a white holder for the pics).

Side Events - We will have various side events that players can sign up for that will be run after the Main Event, during the Top Cut, for those of you who want to stick around and keep having some more fun with your Pokemon friends. Some may include an Unlimited tourney or a regular Modified (either free for lesser prizes or for a $5 fee for larger prizes), a Theme Deck Challenge + booster packs, a booster Draft. Player interest will determine what ones we go with.
I'll post potential prices and prizes shortly.

So what should I bring to this event or do to prepare?

I would suggest that you come to this Premiere Event as prepared as possible, so that your experience will be as fun and stress free as it can possibly be. We want you to have a great time, we don't want you to be nervous or freak out because you forgot something or didn't realize you needed to do something. So here are some tips for you to make sure you have a great tournament...

Pokeball Print your decklist out ahead of time so that you can have it all filled out when you get there (and make sure it's neat so we can read it!) That way you can have fun talking with everyone, browsing at the store or making new friends. There will be a lot going on that morning, and you can easily get very distracted trying to write out a decklist there. You don't want to have a mistake on your list that might cost you a match, when it could have easily been avoided by writing out your decklist ahead of time at home.

Pokeball Get plenty of rest and be sure to have yourself a good breakfast before you come! You'll be able to concentrate better if you don't get distracted listening to your stomach growling!

Pokeball Don't bring more 'stuff' than you can easily keep track of... we can't be responsible for lost items. If you bring a backpack, keep it at your feet with a foot on a strap maybe. And it's a good idea to put your name on things too :)

Pokeball Make sure you have everything you need... damage counters or dice or a coin, some spare sleeves in case one of yours gets ripped or damaged, something to keep your stuff in.

Pokeball Bring along a couple dollars... it's going to be a long day, you'll probably get hungry, and we will have some great food available there from the Hoffman House. Besides, there will also be some good stuff for sale at Collect A Card N Comics's booth, including Pokemon cards, tins, boosters and other cool stuff.

Pokeball Check your deck over before you get there... make sure your cards aren't damaged or 'marked' in any way, that your deck has 60 cards exactly, and that it's all in the Modified format.

Pokeball Preregister, so that you can speed things along and get into the room a little quicker. You can also email me with any other questions you might have.

We want you to have a wonderful day at a great competition!

I'll have more details posted shortly! Stop back often!
