As announced on the Pokemon Website - It’s the dawn of a new age for fans of the Pokémon Trading Card Game with the release of Pokémon TCG: Black & White—Emerging Powers. Coming in August, this landmark expansion will be the first to give Pokémon TCG players full access to theme decks and booster packs in the new player-versus-player Pokémon Trading Card Game Online! Pokémon TCG players who log into www.pokemon.com/tcgo will have the freedom to battle anytime, anywhere against players from around the globe. The competition intensifies when players purchase Pokémon TCG: Black & White—Emerging Powers theme decks and booster packs. These products will allow players to build customized decks for online battle with virtual cards unlocked with special in-pack codes! The new Pokémon TCG: Black & White—Emerging Powers expansion, featuring only Unova region Pokémon, comes ready for battle, whether playing in the real world or online, with more than 90 cards and brand-new Item cards to revitalize each deck. As players explore the secrets of the Unova region, they’ll discover a legion of 25 astonishing, never-before-seen Pokémon, including the debut of the Legendary Trio of Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion! Two Pokémon TCG: Black & White—Emerging Powers theme decks arrive at major retail stores nationwide on August 17. Each theme deck—Power Play and Toxic Tricks—will feature a special foil card! The four booster pack designs, debuting in stores August 31, feature fierce new Pokémon—Tornadus, Cobalion, Braviary, and Darmanitan—with each booster pack including one guaranteed foil card! Here are the details! *************Emerging Powers Prerelease************
Main event - Each player will receive 6 booster packs of the new set (to keep) and may start opening their packs when we tell everyone to go. Players will each build their own 40 card deck to play (using only those cards from the 6 packs, no trading cards with others until after the Tourney) and will also decide how many energies they will want to include in their decks (basic energies are provided at the event). Everyone will then have 30 minutes to build their decks, using only the cards from the packs they received. That totally levels the playing field... because from the best player around to the newest youngster there, everyone has an equal chance at this tourney because you never know what cards you'll get in your packs! That's what makes it so fun! And don't worry, it's not really that hard to build your own deck... generally there aren't a whole lot of trainers in a set, so you'll usually want to include as many of them that will be helpful as you can. You want to make sure you have as many basic Pokemon as you can, and include any evolutions that you might have been lucky enough to get as well. Try to keep your deck to 2 or 3 types, like Fire and Electric or whichever, because that will be helpful to you in drawing the particular energies you need for your Pokemon's attacks. Of course Colorless type Pokemon can fit nicely into any type of deck since they can use any type of energy you happen to have. Since your deck needs to be 40 cards in total, a relatively simple rule of thumb would be 20 energies and 20 in any combination of basics, their evolutions (if you got any), and trainers. Then, just decide how many of which type of energies you'll need to get by looking over the energy requirements for your Pokemon's attacks. And that's pretty much all there is to it!

$25 THEME DECK CHALLENGE - For this particular Emerging Powers event, since Theme Decks will have already been released at the time of our Prerelease, we will only be allowed to have the Theme Deck Challenge as a Side Event for those who have already played in the Main event. Now if you just want one of the Theme Decks, they will be available for sale at the store. But if you want to have the fun time with a Theme Deck Challenge, sign up for this one! You'll get one of the 2 new Theme Decks, plus 4 booster packs that you can use to enhance your deck by swapping out some of the cards for ones in the packs. You'll play 3 rounds, and afterwards I'll give 3 packs to the 1st place winner, 2 for the 2nd place finisher, and 1 pack to 3rd place, plus everyone will get a special Poster if they want one.
