"About 80 Pokemon players took part in the citywide Pokémon Championship,
sponsored Saturday by Tomorrow is Yesterday, at North Suburban Woman’s Club in Loves Park."

Oh my GOSH we had a great time at our City Championships this year!! What a wonderful turnout too! We finished up with a grand total of 84 players!! 50 in the Masters Division, 24 in the Senior Division, and 10 in the Junior Division!

We had players come from as far as the Minneapolis area, LaCrosse area, Green Bay area, Iowa, IL, WI,... all over! This event had the feel of a mini-Regionals for sure! Some of the very best players in all the land were with us, truly an exciting and high level event! We also had a LOT of brand new players to the game! I assigned a total of 13 new POP ID numbers! It was actually a pretty close call because I only had one number left until my next batch arrives, which is scheduled for next week. But all worked out just fine!

The newsmedia was of course there, and we had WTVO Ch 17 do a great piece on our event, including a brief interview with the reigning World Champ, Jason K. Also WREX Ch 13 was there, and the Rockford Register Star once again gave us fantastic coverage, with mention on the top left front page, and full length, full cover article on the front page of the Local & State section. Great pics and a well done article as well. Here's a link to the Online version of it, although admittedly it's not quite as impressive as the paper version, which looks even better! None-the-less, you can check out that article here:

Things got started pretty much on time, just a minor table number delay for the Senior and Junior Divisions, but then the festivities began. After the first round we only had about 10 minutes before the time the pizzas were to arrive, so we decided to break for lunch then rather than starting up Round 2 and chance the pizzas getting cold (or distracting the players still playing) when they arrived. In came 25 pizzas on these nice delivery carts, all fresh and hot from Little Caesars. I also brought out trays of my homemade cookies (26 dozen chocolate chip and sugar cookies) and punch. Everyone seemed to enjoy the free lunch. :)

Behind this table you can see we had our TV and VCR playing Pokemon movies for the kids to watch in between rounds. At this table we also had blank Pokemon card and Trainer card activity papers with lots of crayons. They loved watching the movies and coloring!

But right now, the little kids loved the pizza, cookies and punch!

Actually I think everyone did!

Wait, did you say there's more?!

Brandon loves his pizza!

OK! On with Round 2! Prof Keny hands out the Match slips...

Saturday at North Suburban Woman's Club in Loves Park."

Our Senior group awaiting the door prize dice roll game...it was fun, we layed out all the door prizes on the table, then rolled the dice. The numbers rolled first got to pick what they wanted first...until everyone got to go home with something.
