Want to earn even more packs?
You'll get a Free Pack for each new player you bring who hasn't played at our events before! So bring along your friends, neighbors, cousins, parents... you get a pack for each one you bring!
!thumbs up

Now keep in mind the spirit of a Prerelease is non-competitive, with no real pressure to win, which is why everyone will receive prize packs at the end. The main objective is to have fun and check out all the new cards! But don't worry, we'll have LOTS of random pack giveaways throughout the day! Plus, I'll give out a free Pass to our next Prerelease worth $25, (can be used in either Rockford or Rantoul) as well as some other great door prizes! You can be sure we'll all have a good time!

*************Black & White Prerelease************
- Main Event -

Cost: $25
for 6 boosters to build the deck you'll play in the tournament, plus a special Promo Card and a cool Promo item, while supplies last! And I CAN tell you that you'll love them!
So you get more than $35 worth of products for only a $25 entrance fee!

Main event -Each player will receive 6 booster packs of the new set (to keep) and may start opening their packs when we tell everyone to go. Players will each build their own 40 card deck to play (using only those cards from the 6 packs, no trading cards with others until after the Tourney) and will also decide how many energies they will want to include in their decks (basic energies are provided at the event). Everyone will then have 30 minutes to build their decks, using only the cards from the packs they received. That totally levels the playing field... because from the best player around to the newest youngster there, everyone has an equal chance at this tourney because you never know what cards you'll get in your packs! That's what makes it so fun!

And don't worry, it's not really that hard to build your own deck... generally there aren't a whole lot of trainers in a set, so you'll usually want to include as many of them that will be helpful as you can. You want to make sure you have as many basic Pokemon as you can, and include any evolutions that you might have been lucky enough to get as well. Try to keep your deck to 2 or 3 types, like Fire and Electric or whichever, because that will be helpful to you in drawing the particular energies you need for your Pokemon's attacks. Of course Colorless type Pokemon can fit nicely into any type of deck since they can use any type of energy you happen to have. Since your deck needs to be 40 cards in total, a relatively simple rule of thumb would be 20 energies and 20 in any combination of basics, their evolutions (if you got any), and trainers. Then, just decide how many of which type of energies you'll need to get by looking over the energy requirements for your Pokemon's attacks. And that's pretty much all there is to it!

Remember, it's a tournament for fun, so don't stress over building 'the perfect deck'... just have fun with it!

Once the decks are built, the tourney will begin. For this event you play for 4 prizes with 20 minute rounds, and we usually play for 3 rounds.

Prizes: ALL participants who finish will receive 2 more Black & White prize packs at the end of the tourney (making a total of 8 packs, PLUS the surprise Promo Item and the Promo card)

*********** Side Events *********
After the main event we'll have a

- Theme Deck Challenge Side Event -

( after the main event and a lunch break, approximately 12:30pm)

Cost: $25

And all participants in the Theme Deck Challenge will ALSO receive 4 Black & White prize packs for participating in the tourney, in addition to the decks they played.
So your choice of one of the 3 Decks plus 4 Black & White booster packs,
all for only a $25 entrance fee!

This side event is separate from the main event and follows a much more casual format. Great for younger players, parents, those who may not be as familiar with deck building on their own, or those who just want the new Preconstructed Theme Decks! If you don't know how to play, we can teach you! Each player will choose one of 3 different Black & White Theme Decks to use to battle others who also choose the Theme Deck Challenge, and the nice thing about playing the Theme Deck Challenge is that each Theme Deck also comes with one of the new Rulebooks and playmats, a special coin, and your own damage counters, all very useful tools for the newer players.

PLUS
There will definitely be a $5 Modified, so bring your best Modified Deck along...
Everybody gets a pack.  1 pack per player into the prize pool per age group.

Then after that, a $15 Mutant Draft as well.

(1 pack for every 2 players into an overall prize pool)

This will be a special Mutant Draft of 5 Black and White packs.  Mutant is a special type of format where you can evolve both by your normal evolution routes (such as Snivy -> Servine -> Serperior), but also by energy type (such as Reshiram -> Simisear -> Emboar).  This is an exciting way to add more strategy to your decks and allow you to use more of the cards that you pull from the Draft. It's really a lot of fun!

As far as the rules for a Draft, they’re right here:

In a Booster Draft event, players receive booster packs from the Tournament Organizer at the beginning of the event. Players split into equal-sized groups, which should not exceed 8 players per group, and are seated in a circle.

At a signal from the Tournament Organizer, each player opens one booster pack without revealing its contents to the other players. Each player then selects one card from his or her booster pack and lays it face down in front of him or her. Once a card has been placed in a player’s stack, it is considered selected and cannot be returned to the pack in exchange for another card. Players then pass the remaining cards, face down, to the person on that player’s left. The cards selected by each player should remain private knowledge during the drafting process. Each player continues to select one card from among the cards handed to him or her until all of the cards have been selected.

This process repeats for each remaining booster pack, with the passing pattern alternating from left to right as each new pack is opened. After all of the booster packs have been opened and all of the cards have been selected, each player constructs a 40-card deck, using only the cards he or she selected and any basic Energy cards provided by the Tournament Organizer. Players have 30 minutes to construct their decks.

Players may not trade the cards they selected in the draft with other players until the tournament ends. The Tournament Organizer may require players to fill out deck lists, including the cards in their decks and any cards not being used. Once the first round of the tournament begins, players may not alter the contents of their decks.

It's fun to make a whole day of it, so why not stick around and keep playing for some more packs? We want you to have a really enjoyable day of playing Pokemon with your friends so we'll squeeze in as much as we possibly can!

So I heard there'll be a Black & White hat giveaway?
Yes,
Camille will be making some hats of the new Black & White Pokemon to give away at both the Rockford and Rantoul events! So be sure to come! You might get lucky and win one of these!
